Sophie Doherty & James Hare
Building a career in marketing is about more than just finding a job. It’s about finding the right fit, a place where you can grow, thrive, and make an impact. It can also be a place where you get to indulge your own hobbies and interests in your working day. What’s that famous phrase? “Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!” Well, we did that here.
An Unmatched Legacy in British Textiles
Founded in 1865, James Hare is a family business with a remarkable history in luxury textiles. Still operating from the same mill just off Wellington Street in Leeds, where it all began, the company has built an enviable reputation for quality and craftsmanship. Their iconic logo, featuring Mr James Hare arriving at work in his horse and cart, reflects the deep heritage that still runs through the business today.
It was essential that the candidate we placed not only had the right marketing and digital skills but also had a passion for luxury textiles, and respected the company’s heritage and values.
Finding the Right Opportunity for Sophie
When we first connected with Sophie Doherty, she was searching for a role that would allow her to be involved in marketing and brand planning and strategy but also be involved in the hands on work as she was so passionate about things like campaign management, content creation and social media. After reviewing her CV and understanding her ambitions, we knew that James Hare would be the perfect fit for her.
Sophie’s Journey to Success
Reflecting on her experience, Sophie shared: “I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to Jonathan for his incredible support during my job search. He not only suggested this fantastic opportunity to me, but after reviewing my CV, he also gave me the confidence to apply. It was a significant step up for me in both pay and position, and after two interviews, I was thrilled to be offered the job! I now love every day in my new role, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his guidance and encouragement.”
Sophie’s success highlights why recruitment should always be about people, not just processes. Jonathan commented, “I recall seeing Sophie’s CV and because I read every line I didn’t just notice her campaign management experience but also her passion for things like fashion, interior design and lifestyle brands. My interview with her just emphasised her suitability and I couldn’t wait to introduce her to Saffron Hare. Sophie and I worked together during the interview process on a few areas that she was developing in to but the overwhelming feeling was that she was going to be perfect for the role.”
Matching People to Business and Culture, Not Just Job Titles
At Northern Marketing Jobs, our recruitment approach is built on understanding both clients and candidates. We don’t send out generic CVs or push people into roles that don’t suit them. Instead, we:
✔ Take the time to understand what businesses truly need.
✔ Support candidates with honest, tailored advice.
✔ Ensure every placement is the right cultural and professional fit.
James Hare’s rich history and commitment to quality required a marketer who could balance heritage with modern marketing strategies. Someone who fully respected the brands’ nuances but who was strong enough to drive the brand and marketing activity alongside the Managing Director. By carefully selecting Sophie, we ensured that she could bring fresh ideas while respecting the brand’s legacy.
If you are also looking to recruit into a specific culture and brand environment where understanding the organisation and the synergy of the candidates is crucial then don’t leave it to chance. Speak to an experienced recruiter like Jonathan Hirst.
